Wedding Day Timeline-Part 4

Get excited! Today’s blog is going to help you with planning time for your reception. If you have been following along with this series, the first blog post helped you plan the amount of time needed for your ceremony and family portraits. The second blog post helped you plan the amount of time for portraits. And the third blog post helped you plan time for all those little details and getting ready photos.

The last part is planning time for your reception. Yay! Time to party and celebrate! When you arrive to the reception, the party has usually already started. If you can plan it, I would suggest a cocktail hour, so guests have time to mingle and snack while you are doing family portraits and it allows for extra portrait time.

Receptions are usually around 3 to 4 hours long. How long your reception lasts honestly depends on your venue and the rest of your timeline. I would recommend doing a lot of the traditional parts of a reception first, such as your first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance, and even the cake cutting. The older people at your wedding want to be able to see and celebrate all those memories with you. If you plan your cake cutting and toasts at the very end, they will have more than likely have left your reception and would miss that.

Additionally, while planning your reception, think about what is important to you: food, dancing, or mingling with guests.

Here is a quick review of the amount of time you will need on your wedding day:
Wedding Timeline:
-Details- 45 minutes
-Getting Ready- 45 minutes
-“First Look”- 1 hour (at least 2 hours before the ceremony)
-Bridal party pictures- 25 minutes
-Ceremony-30-45 minutes
-Family Portraits-30 minutes
-Reception-3 hours

As always, remember while planning your wedding that it is your only wedding day, enjoy the entire experience from start to finish.
