When help is needed | Education

This has been a long week for me. I have invested a lot of time listening, watching, and trying to learn from some of the best people in the wedding industry all week long. Every night for the last few nights I have being watching a live webinar (The Rising Tide Summit Conference) of creative people from all aspects of the wedding industry. It was designed by the ladies at The Rising Tide Society, which believes in building up the creative industry by forming communities not competition. (If you are a creative person, you should follow them!). It can be overwhelming to follow and listen to some of the big names in the industry, but after watching them speak I was inspired. All of them want to help. They want to serve. They want to love. And that is powerful.

The Summit has been the last few nights, but my week actually started with a mentoring session with Katelyn James. Katelyn James is a leader in the wedding photography industry, and probably one of the sweetest people you will meet. And I had the pleasure of sitting down with her and reviewing all the different aspects of my business. (And of course, I got a few snuggles from Bokeh, their adorable little dog!) For me this was an act of asking for help, which is very hard when you have been running a business for a few years. I had started getting to a point where I didn’t know what to do, what to change, or how to do it. Katelyn was able to meet me where I was in my business, and slowly walk through with me small changes that can have macro effects. Katelyn has a rather large fan base, to say the least, but what I appreciated is that she didn’t try to make me her. I will never be her and my business will not look like her business. God designed her to serve others through photography and education. God designed me to serve others but through my talents. What a blessing that is!

It has been an overwhelming week. (I seriously left Katelyn’s house with pages worth of notes!) Be on the lookout for several little changes coming to Diana Gordon Photography! Be sure to click around, my website has changed a little bit!
