It wasn’t love at first sight | Our Story

It wasn’t love at first sight. We didn’t meet in an adorable way, immediately fall in love and live happily ever after. And most people don’t. I have learned that unlike the Disney movies, Nicholas Sparks’ books, and in our culture, most people actually have a developing love story not a cliche love tagline. We have a story that is still being written, but like all good stories we do have a beginning.

Daniel and I met at Christopher Newport University and actually lived in the same dorm building and on the same hallway. And to make it a little bit funnier we have different stories on how we met. Daniel remembers going around on the first day of college introducing himself to everyone on the hallway – thus meeting me. I don’t remember this. I don’t even remember meeting him. He was just a guy on the hall. I even had another guy (not Daniel) on the hall ask me to lunch, and apparently he beat Daniel to my door by seconds. We hung out with groups of friends and over time we learned that each of us liked each other. After people (and us) learned that we liked each other, our story truly begun. We started hanging out more and more on November 23, 2008 Daniel asked me to be his girlfriend.

Honestly, Daniel was my first boyfriend. I never had boys knocking at my parent’s front door to date me. And going into college I wasn’t expecting anything in the relationship world. I wasn’t thinking about marriage at 18 years of age. I wasn’t thinking that I was going to meet “the One”. Like a great story, it takes you by surprise, and meeting and dating a boy freshman year of college was a surprise and the beginning of a great love story. Our story.

There are so many (oh, so many!!!) embrassing but lovely pictures of us through college. This one was from in Feb. 2009, just a few months after we started dating. We were headed out to Captain’s Ball. And no one knew that years later, we would be dressed up again with Daniel in the same tuxedo, but me in a white dress, saying “I Do”.
