Meet Matt and Sarah Powell! I met Sarah at our church’s Women’s Conference and she was just a light! She was so easy to chat with, to listen to, and you can just tell that she loves the Lord!
And I was so honored when she asked me to photograph them and share about the organization they work for, Campus Crusade for Christ. We met on the most humid night I have ever photographed in almost 10 years of professional photography…bless Matt and Sarah’s hearts! They were amazing through the heat and humidity!!
Matt and Sarah serve at Christopher Newport University as Cru campus staff. They are passionate about seeing lost students find hope and freedom in the gospel. In particular, CNU is a launching pad for many future leaders, doctors, politicians and business people. One of their greatest desires is to see God shift the course of students’ lives as they learn what it looks like to be Christ-centered laborers, whether in their profession or in their community.
I love them dancing! Apparently Matt isn’t the biggest fan of dancing, which makes Sarah’s laugh just perfection!
I love these genuine laughs! Matt and Sarah are just so much fun to hang out with(even in extreme heat!)
This one is my favorite!
Learn more about how the Lord has been working through their them (and CRU):
Over the last two years, being a college student has become increasingly stressful, lonely and anxiety-filled. The pressure to keep up is a heavy burden to carry for students, especially amidst the pandemic. By God’s grace, we have still been able to meet both Christian and non-Christian students and provide a place to wrestle through questions about life and faith. On a weekly basis, we study scripture, host community events and do outreach on campus. In a culture that feels like it’s going in a direction further and further from the Lord, there are many students who are hungry for the gospel and for a relationship with Christ. We are able to be on the ground in the midst of the next generation, proclaiming that there is real life and hope to be found, and his name is Jesus.
Aren’t they the sweetest!
Learn how you can support them in prayer or financially:
In light of these things, the pandemic has taken a toll on both students and campus staff. We have felt the most weary and burned out this last year. Will you pray for us as we head into this next fall semester, as we navigate finding rhythms of working well and resting intentionally? Our staff team is in a time of transition so we are in need of other local believers to help- whether it’s with discipleship, hosting community events, or feeding these sweet students! College students are a joy and a blessing- they keep us young and relevant too! This summer, Matt and I are also raising monthly support for our day to day needs. By others’ faithful monthly giving, we are freed up to be all in on campus and with students.
